Ina Garten’s Idyllic Backyard Invites You to Enjoy Fall With Stunning Blooms, Thoughtful Design, and the Perfect Cozy Seating

Ina Garten.

While some think that summer is the best time to enjoy a backyard, I love spending time in my garden during fall. Warm enough to sit back and relax before the cold hits, I can't resist the crisp air, orange leaves, and seasonal blooms that surround us this time of year.

I've long loved fall for its natural delights, but Ina Garten's charming garden has made me fall in love with autumn once more. Featuring an elegant alcove with a vine-wrapped trellis, it's convinced me that there is no better time than now to immerse myself in the outdoors.

Featuring impressive topiary and seasonal blooms, Ina's backyard is undeniably well done, but you'll be pleased to know that recreating the look is surprisingly simple with some classic outdoor furniture and decor.

Ina's garden is the ultimate fall paradise. I can just picture myself curled up on one of her Adirondack chairs (or this vintage wooden chair from eBay would do the trick) with a book, enjoying the crisp air and looking out at her beautiful topiary. It's not just the plants that make the space so charming; the vintage furniture and accessories transform the nook into the most welcoming outdoor retreat.

Ina's garden is masterfully designed. The rather impressive topiary is hard to miss, framing the lawn and giving the garden its grandeur. The design is separated by a central path that leads to the seating alcove. Although simple, this clever design places the porch right at the center of the garden, allowing Ina to take in the wonderful autumnal views.

Trent Brown, Founder of Ground Break Design, says, 'Ina's garden is incredible. This vignette for the seating area is actually a climbing Hydrangea. A relatively easy plant to grow and a really beautiful addition to any traditional or cottage-style garden.'

He adds, 'The reason this setup works for fall is that Ina has planted for all-season interest. There is a very formal evergreen structure to this section of her garden. The boxwood hedging not only dictates the traffic flow through her garden, but frames different views that draw your eye and invite you to use the spaces. Then, you have the contrasting fall foliage against the permanence of the boxwood and trellis. Those yellows and burnt oranges give a pop of colour to the monochromatic greens and whites. Even the imperfection of scattered leaves along the green lawn pathway, almost similar to flower petals down a wedding aisle, makes the space very approachable.'

The portico features a trellis that's woven with a fall privacy plant, creating an arch of autumnal orange, yellow and green. Full and lush, the tree transforms the simple seating nook into a seasonal statement that shines bright amongst the green lawn and topiary.

Inside the little porch is a pair of classic Adirondack chairs. Although the setup is simple, these characterful additions bring a lived-in charm and warmth to the garden, making it feel even more inviting. Paired with the rustic watering can and lanterns that flank the building, it's a quaint seating arrangement that Ina can enjoy all season long.

Ina's backyard is filled with seasonal delights. From the charming outdoor seating to the impressive topiary, it's a lesson in enjoying fall and all it has to offer.
