LUCKNOW: A three-minute video that has gone viral purportedly showing Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi, the accused in Gorakhnath Temple attack cases, claiming that he was disturbed by the ‘suffering of Muslim community during the protest against CAA and NRC’.
The video appears to be from the time the ATS sleuths were interrogating him after the arrest. A source privy to the probe said that Murtaza confessed to attacking the temple. ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar, however, said that the authenticity of the video was being verified. "The attack on the temple was part of a larger conspiracy and is being probed," he added.
In the video which has been circulating on social media since Thursday morning, Murtaza, with his plastered left hand, can be seen saying that he used to get angry seeing 'atrocities' on the minority community on various issues, including the latest ‘hijab row’ in Karnataka.
Murtaza further goes on to say, a bit incoherently: “Before doing any work, a man searches for justification. I was looking for one. After seeing the condition in Karnataka, someone had to take a chance but no one was doing it. ” Murtaza also says that first he went to Nepal where he got restless and did not sleep. Then he returned to Bansi (Siddharthnagar) from where he took a ride to Gorakhpur. "I took an auto and asked the driver to drop me at Gorakhnath Temple,” he can be heard saying.
He also says that he was aware that there would be a thick police cover outside the temple but still his work would be fulfilled, and he might also not stay alive.
