'In short' - Marco Asensio sends Mohamed Salah message amid Liverpool transfer rumours

Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio says Mohamed Salah is 'one of the best' players in the world, amid rumours linking him with a move to La Liga.

The Egyptian is out of contract at Liverpool in 2023 and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal to extend his stay at Anfield. With the uncertainty, rumours have emerged from Spain in recent months suggesting Barcelona or Real Madrid could move to sign him.

Salah leads the way at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts with 22 so far this season, he's certainly been one of Liverpool's standout performers this term. Amid the rumours, Asensio has suggested the 29-year-old is already at a 'wonderful' club.

He told Egyptian outlet Dostor: "Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world, and he was at the forefront of football for many years, he is in a wonderful club like Liverpool, who fought and competed in great battles to win great titles over many years.

"Salah, in short, is a player with a special and great talent and a very good left foot that he plays with distinction, it is always a pleasure to watch any game he plays in."

Liverpool's talisman has once again been speaking about his future, this time in a recent interview with FourFourTwo. He admitted the root of the problem isn't financial.

Salah said: "I don’t know, I have one year left. I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.

"This club means a lot to me – I’ve enjoyed my football here more than anywhere, I gave the club everything and everybody saw that. I’ve had a lot of unbelievable moments here, winning trophies, individual goals, individual trophies. It’s like a family here."
