'In a good place', Howe on Wilson while Newcastle United will make 'late decision' on Wood

Callum Wilson is in a "good place" ahead of Newcastle United's trip to Fulham this weekend.

The club's star striker has been missing since August with a hamstring injury but now gets the chance to add to his two goals in three games in the Premier League. Wilson's return is great timing for Howe with Alexander Isak unlikely to feature at Craven Cottage.

When asked about Wilson today, Eddie Howe said: "Callum has trained. He's trained for around ten days with us now and is in a good place. Every time he comes back from an injury he does the work and doesn't cut corners.

"He's put a lot of work in with the sports science team too so he's looked good."

Howe also opened up further on Allan Saint-Maximin's soft tissue woes. The winger has not featured since the day he hammered home an equaliser at Wolves in the 1-1 draw.

That day he was hurt making a defensive recovery run. Howe said: "He's doing well. He's had a period away but he's come back and he's close.

"There's a lot of moving parts with us at the moment. I'm being vague but that's because there are a few situations that are unclear going into the game - Allan is one of them."

Howe also reflected on Chris Wood's rib injury which saw him forced off playing for New Zealand. He said: "Chris came off with a rib problem for New Zealand - he took a knock. He's another player we'll make a late decision on."
