In 2018, Matthew McConaughey travelled to the West Texas desert near Marfa around 2018-19 to write his autobiography, Greenlights . He spent almost two months alone in the desert without a phone, internet, radio or electricity. Instead of staying connected to the outside world, the Oscar-winning actor used the time to reflect on his life and read reviews of his acting career, including criticism of his performances.
“I didn’t want to have these things to reach out and have a relationship with the rest of the world. I wanted to be stuck with me and who I’ve been in the last 36 years of my life. And I said look, if you get bored — you got only one person to hang out with — You,” he said during an interview with Indulge Express 2021.
