In 1903, a woman inventor faced delays as the driver was forced to get out of the car to clean off windshield due to snow , and this situation led Mary Anderson to develop a device that changed how drivers dealt with rain and snow. Anderson was an American inventor who received a US patent for a window-cleaning device that could be operated from inside a vehicle. Her idea came after she observed a trolley driver struggling to see through snow during a visit to New York City. The driver had to open the window and sometimes stop the vehicle to clear the glass. Anderson later developed a lever-operated arm with a rubber blade that could move across the window.
