In 1896, American electrical engineer and inventor William S. Hadaway Jr. received the first U.S. patent for an electric stove. The patent was granted on June 30, 1896, for a design that used electrical resistance to produce heat for cooking. Hadaway was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and worked on electrical heating technology for residential and commercial use. His design addressed a problem faced by earlier electric stoves, where heating coils did not distribute heat evenly. He developed a system that changed resistance along the heating element to produce a more uniform temperature. His work became part of the development of electric cooking appliances used in homes and businesses.
