Adelaide 36ers import Troy Brown has been released from his contract for personal reasons, just 57 days after his first game for the NBL heavyweights.

The Sixers announced on Monday the former NBA swingman would return home to the USA after both parties agreed to a mutual termination.

The ladder-leading Sixers plan to go to market for a new import as they push for a first title since the 2001/02 season.

"Troy has been nothing but professional since arriving in November but we respect his want to head home and thank him for what he brought to our group," Sixers general manager of basketball Matt Weston said in a statement.

Brown, 26, joined the Sixers mid-season as the club's third import and averaged 4.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists across 13 games.

He previously played 371 NBA games between 2018 and 2024, 142 of those for the Washington Wizards, and arrived in Adelaide following a stint in Puerto Rico.

His departure is only the latest import drama this season for the Sixers, who were forced to farewell Montrezl Harrell amid a provisional doping suspension.

The former NBA sixth man of the year had been planning to return to the Sixers for a second season but the club confirmed the termination of his contract only days before the start of the season.
