Imelda May was praised as someone who is "the best of us" after she gave First Aid to a person who fell and waited with them until an ambulance arrived.
The Dubliner appeared on Tommy Tiernan’s chat show on Saturday night to talk about losing her confidence on stage after not being able to perform during the pandemic.
Just hours after her appearance, nasty online trolls criticised the singer for her appearance on the RTE One show.
But fellow poet and singer Stephen James Smith blasted vile trolls, revealing he witnessed the star giving someone First Aid – saying she is “the best of us”.
He wrote: “Last night I witnessed Imelda May give First Aid to someone who fell, she supported them until an ambulance arrived.
“She is the best of us. Tonight I see people on Twitter making snide remarks about her and her art. Twitter is the worst of us sometimes.”
Imelda thanked her pal and said she didn’t take any notice of “nasty tweeters”.
She wrote: “Thanks pal. You’re a good friend. I did what anyone would do.
“Sure we all only have each other. (I don’t take heed of nasty tweeters. It says more about them than me.) Buíochas.”
On Sunday, the mum-of-one praised Tommy Tiernan’s interviewing skills – describing him as a “special soul”.
She said: “I was delighted to be guest on the Tommy Tiernan Show last night.
@Tommedian. We talked about life, love and everything. We chatted about being a performer and about pre and post lockdown touring (my tour kicks off in 2 weeks!!!) and about what I was writing during time at home resulting in my poetry 'A Lick and a Promise' we talked of grá for home, family and of love itself. I feel like I’ve been to confession!
"@Tommedian is an extraordinary interviewer.
"He creates such an atmosphere where it feels a safe space to open up a little and so you do. "He listens, cares, shares. This is a masterclass in interviewing. Thanks for having me @Tommedian. You’re a special soul.”
