Man wanted in connection with brutal assault of bar staff member in Sunderland is identified

Officers have identified a man who they wished to speak to in connection with an assault in Sunderland.

Shortly after 7pm on May 21, police received a report that a member of staff had been assaulted at Greens Bar on Low Row.

It was alleged that a man had entered the premises but had been refused service at the bar and, as a result of his behaviour, was asked to leave by staff.

However, the man has then became aggressive reportedly headbutting a member of security, causing him to fall to the ground. The offender has then punched the victim, aged 39, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim suffered a broken leg, cuts and bruising to the face as a result of the assault. The incident was later reported to police who launched an investigation.

As part of their ongoing enquiries into the incident, Northumbria Police issued an appeal to the public, asking for their assistance.

The individual has now been located.

The man, or anyone who knows him, is asked to contact police using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page on the Northumbria Police website or by calling 101 quoting crime reference 059499C/22.
