Illegal Migrant On Terrorist Watchlist Arrested After Barricade Incident

Tension at the U.S.-Mexico border amid migrant surge

An illegal migrant, identified as 32-year-old Awet Hagos from Eritrea, was taken into custody following a barricade shooting incident in North Carolina. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Hagos had been living in the area for six months after entering the U.S. illegally from Haiti.

The Gates County Sheriff's Office was alerted to Hagos during a barricade incident at a Quick Stop gas station. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Monday, March 11, at approximately 6:40 p.m. Hagos became combative and attempted to disarm a deputy before fleeing into his home, leading to a four-hour standoff with law enforcement.

Hagos was eventually apprehended and charged with three counts of assault on a government official, three counts of resisting a public officer, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. He was placed under a $100,000 secured bond and transported to Albemarle District Jail.

Reports emerged that Hagos was on a terrorist watch list, prompting three Republican leaders to write a letter to President Joe Biden, expressing concerns about Hagos' alleged ties to anti-American terrorist activity. The leaders demanded more information about Hagos and his background.

The incident has raised serious concerns not only for the people of North Carolina but for the nation as a whole. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and gather more details about Hagos' activities and motives.
