IKEA sells Indian steel thali for Rs 760; Harsh Goenka jokes next they will call belan a ‘aerodynamic dough-flattening wand’ and price it at Rs 4,500

An everyday Indian kitchen staple has become an unlikely talking point online after US influencer Amanda Monsen presented IKEA’s stainless-steel plates as fashionable “chrome” tableware. The description drew attention from Indian social media users, who recognised the plates as resembling the traditional steel thalis used in Indian households for generations.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka joined the conversation with a satirical post, comparing the trend to the presentation of familiar Indian products as premium lifestyle accessories. He joked that after Kolhapuri chappals and dupattas, the humble Indian steel plate had also found a new identity, with the IKEA product reportedly priced at around Rs 760.
