IIT-Bombay students complain of unhygienic living conditions in hostel, rats in mess kitchen

Mumbai: Students of IIT-Bombay living in hostel 15 have complained of serious hygiene issues in their mess. They have complained of rat sightings in the mess kitchen, worms and metal pieces in food to non-functional washing machines and leakages leading to unhygienic conditions.

The students claimed that the absence of a students' council in the hostel, which houses 900 students, is leading to too many issues. The issues were highlighted by the institute’s in-house magazine, Insight, on their social media.

The post mentioned that the hostel residents have been living in extremely unhygienic and dangerous conditions for a long time now.

They even added that final-year undergraduate girl students are yet to get a communication from the institute regarding shifting to a single room.
