Swiatek is asked what being the first US Open champion from Poland means to her and to her country. “Well, I don’t know,” she says. “I gotta come back home and check, but I’m pretty sure that it’s a lot. I can even hear what’s going on right now on the stadium. Thank you, guys.”
She continues: “I think especially right now when we got to stay united and really support ourselves and stay together, I’m pretty happy that I can kind of unite people with our sport. I’m proud that tennis is getting more and more popular at home. I know that I’m repeating basically what Ons said. You’re such an inspiration as well, but yeah, we are trying to do our best to be good people and to be good examples.”
