If your AMD chipset drivers are mysteriously failing to install like mine, you'll need to manually update instead

A photo of an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor mounted in a motherboard CPU socket.

Keeping on top of chipset driver updates is a boring, but necessary part of maintaining a modern PC. Unfortunately, both myself and fellow hardware nerd Jacob Fox have run into an issue with the AMD Install Manager, which attempts to install the latest chipset driver and fails miserably on both our machines.

Very unhelpfully, the failed installer points to a general error page, which blitheringly suggests a whole host of vague, unrelated PC update conflicts might be to blame. I even reinstalled the entire AMD Adrenaline driver package in the hopes of an easy fix, to no avail.
