On Monday, it was revealed that Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams, who is universally recognized as the NFL’s best at his position, will not play in 2022 under the franchise tag. In addition, Adams and the Packers are reportedly far apart on what it would take to get him in the fold long-term.
Adams has a fair point; the one-year tag of $20,145 million isn’t exactly chump change, but it also doesn’t address his value over a number of years, and if he suffers any kind of injury in 2022, he’s going to be out of pocket.
And, maybe Adams was waiting to see how the free agent market for receivers would pan out. The Jaguars sent a solid indication with this deal for ex-Cardinals wideout Christian Kirk, who has never enjoyed a 1,000-yard season.
Christian Kirk huge Jaguars deal, $72M base value $84M max value, $20M signing bonus, salaries $1.5M (gtd), $15.5M (gtd), $14.5M, $15.5M; $500K annual workout bonus, $500K up to per game active annual roster bonuses, $3M incentive annual

Of course, there’s always funny money involved in these deals — the likelihood is that it’s a two-year lowball deal unless Kirk really blows it up in Jacksonville. But with that in mind, and given Adams’ relative excellence on the field, here’s what we think the Packers veteran should be asking for in response.
