Idris Elba is set to star in the upcoming Luther movie and has described it as a huge achievement.
The 49-year-old actor has recently wrapped filming on the feature-length film, which will continue the story of DCI John Luther.
BBC Films, Chernin Entertainment and Netflix have teamed up to create the movie, with Idris hinting that his character found himself in some uncomfortable scenarios during the shoot.
"I feel like definitely the film is a massive achievement for all of us, we love the film," he told Robert Bruce on Capital XTRA Breakfast.
He added: "I think the fans that are worried that “wow now Luther is going to get Hollywood”, I don’t think they need to worry about that.
"We have definitely paid attention to the core fans, we’ve also left room for people who don’t know Luther to kind of say ‘let me get involved’, you know what I mean?
"So, I can’t wait for people to see it, so proud to see a Luther film from 10 years of a TV show to now a film, it’s amazing for me."
Idris hinted at a dark storyline for the film.
"I just finished filming about three weeks ago, it was a grim shoot. Oh my gosh," he told SiriusXM.
He added: "I’m reading the script and then, 'He does what? Wow, this is incredible!' And then I’m actually doing it.
"I find myself freezing in some dark cave or something, but no spoilers."
Idris revealed the film picks up from where the last season of Luther finished, but added the film was a whole story in itself.
He said: "Even if you don’t know Luther, who he is, or anything about him, the film attempts to be whole for a new audience."
