Idlewild indie legend Roddy Woomble to perform in Lanarkshire next month

Roddy Woomble, frontman for Scottish indie legends Idlewild, has been confirmed as the next top act to grace the Strathaven Hotel stage.

Following in the footsteps of The Charlatans' Tim Burgess, Altered Images, JJ Gilmour and, most recently, King Creosote, Roddy will play the latest FRETS concert in the Lanarkshire town on Friday, May 13.

Widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest songwriters, Roddy is known for his enigmatic lyrics, warm baritone voice and consummate gift for a tune.

His six solo albums include 'My Secret Is My Silence' (2006), ‘Before The Ruin’ (2008, with Kris Drever and John McCusker), 'The Impossible Song & Other Songs' (2011), 'Listen To Keep' (2013), ‘The Deluder’ (2017), and the recently released ‘Lo Soul'.

For the past 25 years Roddy has also been the frontman of much loved Idlewild, releasing eight studio albums, and touring worldwide as a headline act, but also providing support for the likes of R.E.M., Pearl Jam and U2.

Roddy will be playing songs from his back catalogue along with songs from his latest solo album, 'Lo Soul', which was produced and mixed by recent collaborator Andrew Mitchell (aka Andrew Wasylyk).

The LP was recorded remotely between Roddy’s home in the Hebrides and Andrew’s studio in Dundee throughout 2020 while Scotland was locked down.

Special guest Lavinia Blackwall will also be performing on the night with accompaniment by the immeasurably talented Marco Rea. Lavinia’s solo album, Mugginton Lane End has been a firm favourite with critics since its release in 2020.

And opening the concert will be Docken Leaf, a joint endeavour by Ken McCluskey (The Bluebells) and Brian Docherty (Scientific Support Dept), who will be making their live debut at FRETS.

Next up will be The Bathers on June 17 and Arab Strap on July 1.
