The restoration and repair of the iconic bandstand in St Stephen's Green will cost almost €300k it has emerged.
The structure was closed in 2021 due to structural issues and has remained shut to public access since over safety fears. Since then there has been reports and surveys on the condition of the bandstand which is in need of architectural conservation.
A contractor was appointed earlier this month to carry out the works which will cost around €290,000. The repairs will be structural and focused on the columns, plinth and decking.

Social Democrats Deputy Catherine Murphy requested an update on the progress, price and completion date of repairs to the structure. The Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform said works are expected to be completed by the end of October 2023.
The Department's response said: "Conservation Architects from the Office of Public Works have been working to determine the most appropriate manner to restore and make safe this historic bandstand. The OPW has commissioned historical reports and condition surveys and it has been determined that it is necessary to carry out structural repairs to the columns, plinths and decking.
"The quantity surveyors have returned an estimated Total Construction Project Budget costing for the St. Stephen's Green Bandstand Refurbishment Works of €290,000 which is inclusive of VAT and associated fees. This project will be fully-funded from within the OPW vote."
