You might have seen pictures of The Shark House. A 25-foot fibreglass and steel sculpture of a shark crashes headfirst into the roof of a pretty Victorian property in Headington, Oxfordshire. The shark’s enormous body points skyward, its head submerged in the building.
This unusual sculpture was conceived in 1986 by Bill Heine — the current owner’s father — and the sculptor John Buckley. Its existence was immediately controversial: it had been erected overnight, without planning permission, and quickly became the subject of a six-year dispute over its right to remain.
