Several restaurant updates have occurred in recent months at Mandalay Bay. Chef Charlie Palmer closed his Aureole restaurant, which operated at Mandalay for over 20 years, to make way for "Top Chef" stars Michael and Bryan Voltaggio's new eatery Retro by Voltaggio. Retro celebrates nostalgia from the 1980's and 90's and features menu items like Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail, pot roast and lobster Thermidor.
Wolfgang Puck Reinvents Restaurant on The Strip
As part of Mandalay Bay's renovations to prepare for the arrival of Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium, the Caesars Entertainment (CZR) hotel casino's Italian restaurant Lupo, operated by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, will close for business in August for remodeling to a new Italian concept with a new name, but still run by Puck, according to the Review-Journal.
Mandalay Bay approached Puck's team to say that they wanted them to remain at the hotel casino, but asked if they could create a new restaurant different from Lupo. Puck reportedly wants to create "something new and exciting and different that's tied to Wolfgang personally."
Neither Mandalay Bay, nor Puck have revealed the name of the new restaurant. Lupo, which Puck has operated at Mandalay Bay since May 1999, will depart the hotel casino but reappear in place of Wolfgang Puck Players Locker, a sports-themed restaurant in downtown Summerlin, Nev. Renovations to convert Players Locker to a luxury neighborhood restaurant are expected to begin in late summer or early fall and open by the end of the year.
Puck and his team are still working on the design and menu for the Summerlin restaurant, which will be created as a combination of Lupo and Puck's iconic Spago that has been on the Strip since 1992 at the Forum Shops at Caesars, before moving to Bellagio. The new restaurant will feature Mediterranean cuisine with American and Asian elements.
