Iconic Irish-British actress Dame Angela Lansbury has died aged 96.
The London born actress, who held Irish citizenship from birth and called herself "Irish-British", died in Los Angeles earlier today her family announced. The Murder, She Wrote star was just five days shy of her 97th birthday.
She was also famous for her role as Mrs Potts in Disney classic Beauty and the Beast. A statement from her family said: "The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday."

The actor's most recent role saw her perform on London's West End in 2019 portraying Lady Bracknell in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest as part of a one-night benefit staging of the play. Over her career spanning seven decades she won five Tony awards.
Dame Angela spent a lot of time in Ireland and had a holiday home in Co Cork. Her most recent public visit to Dublin was in 2016 when she was awarded the Volta award in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre as part of the Audi Dublin International Film Festival. She also spent time in the capital in 1997 filming film The Unexpected Mrs Pollifax.
