French-Algerian football icon Zinedine Zidane became the new manager of France’s national football team on Tuesday, bringing an end to what little suspense there was over Didier Deschamp’s successor. Zidane frequently stated his desire to take over the French team and much of the football world supported his ambitions.

French- Algerian football legend Zinedine Zidane expressed his hopes of becoming France's head coach as early as 2022 in an interview with the sports newspaper L’Équipe​​​​​.
