Shutting completely until completion, the works inside the cafe are estimated to take around four weeks, with the site set to relaunch with a brand new look next month.
Confirming the Morningside venue will remain open during this time, a post said: "WE ARE CLOSING FOR REFURBISHMENT."
"You might have seen the sign up outside our Musselburgh shop, we’ll be closing for refurbishment from Sunday 8th January with the last day of service as Saturday 7th January!"
"You’ll still be able to get our delicious ice cream at our Morningside shop and through our online store! We look forward to welcoming you back soon!"
Details of what the new fit out will look like have been kept under wraps, however customers were keen to share their excitement at the makeover.
One local commented: "It's going to look amazing!"
Another replied: "The Luca's shop was always a bit like charlie and the chocolate factory for me as a kid, something a bit magical and nostalgic."
