Iconic Coronation Street prop set to be destroyed if soap superfan buyer is not found

An iconic Coronation Street prop could be destroyed - unless a buyer is found soon.

A tram that has had a huge role in the iconic ITV soap is set to be broken up for scrap and spare parts, if a buyer cannot be found before the deadline is reached as the Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust look to get rid of their trams.

The Trust is finding it hard to locate a place for the Balloon Car 710, which has been at Wyre Dock for a number of years, with a deadline set for 2022 - when it will be dismantled for scrap or spare parts if not bought.

There is no reason for the tram to be moved to the Rigby Road Depot in Blackpool as similar trams are already there - but there could be a chance for it to be moved elsewhere in the country, with fans given the chance of possibly owning it.

The tram is best known for having a starring role in the scene where evil soap villain Alan Bradley died, as 11 million viewers tuned in to watch him be killed by the Number 247 - which was converted to a number 710 later on in its life.

The beautiful vehicle still has its swing back seating on both decks, as well as incredible half-drop side windows and the original ceiling panels, which have been painted over. The curved corner glazing remains the same; it was added during the war.

The handles and door fittings have been all kept in the style of the original tram.

The tram featured in the 1989 scene, where Alan- played by Mark Eden - chased Rita Fairclough (Barbara Knox) along Blackpool Prom before he was killed by the vehicle.

In December 2009, Mark Eden returned to the place where they filmed to unveil a blue plaque which marked the 20 year anniversary of the episode being aired. He appeared outside the Strand Hotel, where the iconic footage was filmed.
