Iceland bosses have confirmed another store closure after already shuttering more than a dozen shops in 2023.
The value food supermarket chain, which has over 500 stores across the UK, has confirmed that one of its Huddersfield locations will close permanently next month.
It comes after Iceland bosses announced that the shutters also came down on Iceland stores in Llanelli, Birkenhead and Crewe in September.
According to an Iceland spokesperson, Iceland’s Trinity Street store in Huddersfield will close for good on October 28.
“The Trinity Street, Huddersfield store is due to close on October 28, we anticipate many of our customers will instead choose to shop at the nearby Food Warehouse on Great Northern Retail Park,” the spokesperson said, as published in The Sun.
“We typically open more than 20 new stores each year, creating many new jobs and contributing to the growth of local economies.”
The representative added: “At the same time, we continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire.”
The news comes shortly after Wilko, another staple of the British high street, began closing its stores across the country while laying off staff.
How many Iceland stores are closing in London?
Iceland has a number of stores across the capital, but no London outlets are understood to be impacted by the latest round of store closures.
One of Iceland’s Harrow branches was permanently closed earlier this year.
