Iceland sparks debate among shoppers over latest hash brown food combination

Iceland have unveiled brand new hash brown onion rings which have sparked a debate among shoppers who think they need to be one or the other.

The frozen food supermarket's latest invention recently went viral on social media after it was shared to the popular Newfoodsuk Facebook page.

The new food combination features the beloved fried potato breakfast staple in a crispy round shape with diced onion mixed in through the potato.

It is the latest unique hash brown blend to make its way into Iceland freezers following the launch of the hugely popular Heinz Baked Beanz Filled Hash Browns that shoppers went wild for.

And while the previous combo had shoppers praising it as "unreal", the latest venture has been met with a little more scepticism from shoppers who think that it is just a fancy way of calling a hash brown a...well, a hash brown.

The food Facebook page shared the find with the caption: "New Hash Brown Onion Rings!! These are pretty good! It’s diced onion rather than an actual onion ring, but still very tasty! Now available online at Iceland!"

Over 1,000 fans have liked the post and nearly 3,000 have commented on the new combination, with many commenting that it really is just a hash brown - not an onion ring.

"So it's a ring shaped hash brown", commented one shopper.

"But made of onion?", one said in defence of the food combo.

"Hash browns already have onion in lol", retaliated the original commenter.

Other shoppers were quick to agree that the "onion" rings weren't really a new invention as it was technically just a traditional hash brown in a ring shape.

"So it’s just a hash brown then?", agreed a second.

"So a hash brown then? Considering a traditional hash brown is grated potatoes and onion?", joked a third.

Despite the debate from some shoppers, there were quite a few who had already managed to try them out and praised the new hah brown combo as "banging."

"Solid yes from me", praised one shopper.

"These are banging", agreed a second.

"Got em tried em love em.", commented a third happy shopper.

Iceland's Hash Brown Onion Rings are available in 800g packets for just £2 in stores now.
