Iceland shoppers rush to buy £4 dish that's 'better than takeaway'

Iceland shoppers are praising an "amazing" meal they say trumps its takeaway version.

The supermarket is regularly hailed for its selection of frozen products across a wide variety of cuisines. From Chinese, to Indian, the retailer stocks plenty of "fake away" options and the latest has received raving reviews - with one dubbing it a "taste sensation".

Iceland's King Kebab House Doner Kebab Meat costs £4 on its own but can also come as a meal deal with two other items for £10. So far, the dish has received has an overall 4.5 out star ratings, with many shoppers choosing it over their local kebab shop.

The dish is made from beef, chicken, lamb and mutton, before being seasoned with a "unique blend of spices". Among the many positive reviews on the Iceland website, many say they regularly stock up on the frozen kebab meat that takes minutes to cook, the Liverpool Echo reports.

"After reading the reviews so glad I got this I fried it in a little oil and had with the chip shop chips and hands down better then the local takeaway, highly recommended," wrote one happy customer.

A second said: "This is the best home kebab meat on the market The pity is Iceland don’t seem to have a good supply I would gladly by it by huge amounts it’s tasty and better than takeaway".

A third said: "Stock up on this every time I go to store as it doesn't last long in our [house]. Very moreish and kids love it.

"Even better than some takeaways." A fourth added: "If you like donner kebabs you are in for a taste sensation."

If you can't make it to Iceland, Tesco also sells a frozen donor kebab dish for £2.50, with two filled pittas containing lamb cabbage and onions. Alternatively, Waitrose sells a chicken shawarma spiced kebab for £8.
