Iceland shoppers ‘can’t stop eating’ meatballs that are ‘exactly like IKEA’

We all know the best part of a trip to IKEA is making a mid-shop stop at the cafe for a huge plate of meatballs. But what if you didn’t need to make a 10 mile round trip or wander through a maze of flatpack furniture to get the same satisfaction?

Well, Iceland shoppers have said that a bag of frozen meatballs at the budget supermarket are ‘exactly the same’ - and they only cost a fiver.

A photo of the 900g bag of Öresundschark AB Swedish Meatballs was shared to the Money Saving Central Facebook page, racking up more than 100 comments from shoppers desperate to try them.

The page wrote: “If you’re lazy like me and cba to trek 8 miles around IKEA for meatballs then try these ones from Iceland, they are exactly the same.”

Sarah Jo commented: “I use these all the time. They are great in the air fryer.” Wendy Pearce agreed, adding: “I buy these, they are exactly like IKEA ones.” Meanwhile Leon Barrt said: “Run, don’t walk to Iceland.”

The meatballs are made with pork and beef, as well as onions and potatoes to mimic IKEA’s iconic cafe menu item. A bag costs £5 each, and they can be microwaved, oven cooked or shallow fried from frozen.

Shoppers who have purchased the meatballs have rated them five stars, with one shopper eating their way through three bags in two weeks.

Emily Matthews said: “These are the best meatballs. Fact. I've been buying these for a few years and always have a bag in the freezer. Great value too.”

Abigail Petre added: “These meatballs are so tasty, cannot recommend them highly enough. I cook these in my air fryer and they work out at 33 calories each! I haven’t tried making the IKEA gravy yet, but have had these with a ragu style sauce and are great with both spaghetti or in a deli roll (with a little mozzarella). They might sound expensive, but there are 65 meatballs in the pack, well worth it.”

Amy C was thrilled to find out they’re also gluten free, commenting: “They are GLUTEN FREE!!! I think they taste fine and are really convenient to have in the freezer!! Thank you for stocking them!!!”

And Niamh Mcquaid said: “These are so so yum I literally can’t stop eating them I’ve bought 3 packs in like 2 weeks for real.”
