Iceland launch dupe of McDonald's axed menu item - and it's nearly £2 cheaper

Fast-food fans were left heartbroken earlier this month when one of their favourite menu items was axed. McDonald’s customers were left devastated when they were unable to order the McSpicy, after it was replaced by the Taste of Italy menu.

But now, discount supermarket Iceland have launched a dupe, meaning shoppers can ditch the drive thru and spice up their meal from the frozen aisle.

Exclusive to Iceland, the Tabasco chicken fillet burgers offer tender chicken breast coated in fiery, crispy breadcrumbs that pack a punch just as strong as the iconic red bottle hot sauce, making it the perfect alternative to the McSpicy.

The pack of two chicken burgers costs £2.50, with 12 soft sesame seed buns coming in at £1.50, iceberg lettuce costing 75p and 500ml of mayo for £1. That makes one of the Iceland dupes cost around £1.98 - a fraction of the price of a £3.89 McSpicy.

And if a burger isn’t quite enough heat for you, shoppers can get that spicy sensation in the form of Tabasco chicken strips too, costing £3.50 a pack, which Iceland say are ‘a game changer’ that’s guaranteed to crank up the heat this summer.

McDonald’s fans will also know that the brand are set to launch halloumi fries on the menu next month, but if you can’t wait that long, Iceland shoppers can get a taste before they’re even available.

The supermarket’s Chiquito Halloumi Sticks and Jalapeno Dip come in at £4 and are the perfect, golden, crispy accompaniment to the fierce spices of the Tabasco range - and they won’t be replaced in favour of seasonal menu items, either.

You can shop the whole range on Iceland here.
