Iceland is giving away another 40,000 food vouchers worth £30 each - how to get one

Iceland is to give away a further 40,000 food vouchers to certain pensioners struggling with the cost of living.

The supermarket has been awarded another £1 million in funding to offer another wave of £30 food vouchers amid the cost of living crisis.

Pensioners are encouraged to apply as soon as possible because the vouchers will be distributed on a first come first served basis.

You can apply now and the deadline is September 16.

The vouchers can be used on food and household items, not including alcohol and tobacco.

They can be used across more than one transaction, so if your shop does not reach £30, you can partially spend the voucher and save the rest for another time.

It works like a normal gift card - take the voucher to the till and the cashier will scan it.

The first round of vouchers was launched by Iceland earlier this month. All vouchers will expire at 11.59pm on December 31, 2022.

To qualify for the voucher, you must be of state pension age, living independently or with a carer and relying solely on state pensions and benefits.

You can get more than one voucher per household, for example, if you're in a couple.

Another criteria is also that pensioners must live in one of 16 specific areas nationwide.

The areas are:

  • Birmingham

  • Croydon

  • Glamorgan

  • Glasgow

  • Greater Manchester

  • Huddersfield

  • Lambeth (London)

  • Liverpool

  • Newcastle North

  • Newport

  • North Wales

  • Sheffield

  • Strathclyde

  • Sunderland

  • West Midlands

  • Wirral

You can use the vouchers in 269 Iceland shops.

However, this is only around a quarter of Iceland shops - you can Iceland's store locator tool to check for your nearest participating outlet.

If you meet the criteria, you can claim the voucher by calling the Summer Cheer hotline on 0800 098 7877.

The telephone line will be open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Once you've successfully applied, your voucher will arrive by post within seven days.

Richard Walker, Managing Director of Iceland Foods, said: “Since the launch of the partnership last Christmas, the cost-of-living crisis has taken hold of the UK, and now more than ever, people are struggling to access the food they need.

“No one should ever have to worry about how they are going to eat or drink, and we hope that the support we can offer across the UK will help pensioners access and enjoy a worry-free meal during this difficult time.”
