Iceland food club scheme could save you 10% on shopping – what is it and how to claim?

The cost of living crisis continues to squeeze the wallets of millions of Brits, with pensioners some of the worst impacted by the situation.

Prices are going up everywhere we look, from food items down supermarket aisles to fuel prices at the petrol stations.

With energy bills set to rise a worrying 78% in October, now more than ever people need a little help to make ends meet.

Iceland is offering just that for pensioners, with a food scheme that will give customers a discount on their weekly shop.

This can go a long way week on week and could make a massive difference if you are concerned about your shopping in the coming months. Here is everything you need to know about the scheme.

What is Iceland’s food scheme?

Iceland first launched the food scheme back in May 2022 and is available for customers over the age of 60.

Customers that are near the state pension age will be able to claim a 10% discount on their shopping bill.

It is only redeemable on Tuesdays, so customers will need to head to their local Iceland store on that day to claim.

Eligibility is simple, as all customers that are above the age of 60 need to do is show proof of age when they pay at the till.

Identification can come in a variety of forms, including a driving license, buss pass or rail card.

Once your ID is shown, 10% will be taken off all items, not just food.

This discount is also available in The Food Warehouse locations, and you can check where your closest shop is via their online store locator.

You can also check for your local Iceland through their store locator as well.

Through both links, simply put in either your postcode, town, or city in the search bar and click ‘find stores’.

It will then list all the locations from closest to furthest in your area.

Is Iceland offering any other support for customers?

Yes, Iceland also offers a £30 voucher for pensioners which is available until September 16.

This can be used in conjunction with the 10% off on Tuesdays, saving you a massive amount the week you decide to add on the £30 voucher.

There are 40,000 vouchers to claim and, once again, you need to be of pension age to qualify.

You must also live in one of the following areas:

  • Birmingham
  • Croydon
  • Glamorgan
  • Glasgow
  • Greater
  • Huddersfield
  • Lambeth (London)
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester
  • Newcastle
  • North Newport
  • North Wales
  • Sheffield
  • Strathclyde
  • Sunderland
  • West Midlands
  • Wirral

You can apply for the voucher via the free 'cheer hotline' on 0800 098 7877.

Lines are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

There have been reports of long waits to get through on the hotline, though Iceland has informed customers that they are working on speeding up the process.
