ICE Stops Disclosing Locations of Final-Order Detainees as Policy Could Affect Thousands

Federal agents pull over a car (L) after an alleged collision with them on the highway in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 3, 2026. A US judge on January 31, 2026 denied Minnesota's bid to force Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to suspend its sweeping detention and deportation operation in the state that has left two US citizens dead and fueled massive protests. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has stopped displaying the locations of immigrants with final deportation orders in its online detainee database and has barred officers from providing their whereabouts to attorneys and relatives by phone, according to The Washington Post.

The unannounced policy took effect September 15, the Post reported, citing two former Homeland Security officials briefed on the change. ICE did not confirm or deny the change, but said people with final removal orders are being prioritized for deportation and that detainees have access to phones.
