Ice rinks aren't actually white - and the transformation is blowing people's minds

We've all been to an ice rink before, but have you stopped to wonder what's actually underneath your skates? An ice hockey team has revealed how they prepare before games - and many people's minds are being blown as they are only just dicovering the ice isn't actually white.

The Detroit Red Wings, who compete in the Natonal Hockey League, have posted clips of their team of "artists at work" while they get the playing surface ready. And it's left a lot of flabbergasted people questioning everything they know - with some even feeling like they have been "lied to" their whole lives.

In a series of clips posted by ESPN, the workers can be seen painting the ice white, because it's natural colour is actually a dirty grey.

In a very 'satisying' video, they sweep round the rink using a device they can spray paint the ice with a fine mist using a dozen nozzles at the same time.

Once the crew uses multiple coats of white paint with the clever contraption, they must painstakingly measure out all the lines and elements precisely before stenciling with a pen.

Then they paint the colourful lines, crease and face-off dots by hand using a paintbrush, while a paint stick tool is used to make the perfect circles.

The team's logos also have to be stenciled out and hand painted - with the crew making sure they don't slip on the ice.

One person who was completely stunned by the relevation was TikTok user TJ Counselling, who dueted the clip on his page while he sat there with an open mouth.

The social media star wrote alongside it: "I was today years old when I learned that ice rinks are painted white…"

He also added: "Never stop learning, I guess? Who her knew that ice rinks were PAINTED white?"

There were many other people in the comments section who were completely taken by surprise by the revelation.

"THE ICE???? IS NOT ALREADY WHITE????? IM A CHEMISTRY MAJOR HOW DID I NOT REALISE THIS," wrote one baffled person.

Another asked: "Am I the only one who thought that the ice was always white."

"Not me thinking there’s water underneath my whole life," commented a third.

While a fourth confessed: "I FEEL lied to. I mean I wasn’t…but I FEEL like I was lied to. WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS PAINTED?"

It also led to a number of questions over how quickly the paint technically dries or freezes - and whether another layer of ice gets put on top afterwards.

Usually, another layer of ice is put on over the top of the paint so that it doesn't scratch off when people skate other it.

Other people loved watching what was taking place - with many asking if they could get involved.

"This is so satisfying to watch and listen to," wrote oner person.

Another asked: "Where can I sign up for this job?!?"

A third agreed: "Are y'all hiring"
