ICE Buys 6,000 Electric Shock Gloves Designed to Force Compliance in Nearly $17 Million Deal

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has awarded a $16.7 million no-bid contract for 6,000 gloves capable of delivering electric shocks, moving forward with a purchase that has drawn objections from Democratic lawmakers and civil rights advocates over potential misuse.

Federal records show ICE signed the six-month contract Wednesday with Kentucky-based Compliant Technologies LLC. The agency will pay $2,495 apiece for the devices, known as G.L.O.V.E., or Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter, along with support equipment and services.
