City officials confirmed Sunday that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and wounded a Venezuelan man who was on a DoorDash delivery in Austin. Officials said at a Sunday afternoon news conference that the shooting happened just before 1 p.m. at U.S. 183 and Anderson Square in North Austin. Federal authorities have not said what led up to the shooting.
Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, an immigration lawyer who said she is representing the family, identified the man as Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, 28. DoorDash confirmed to CNN that Perez was working as a dasher when he was shot. In a post on X, the Department of Homeland Security said Homeland Security Investigations will lead the inquiry with help from the FBI.
