ICC World Cup: Bangladesh set Australia 307 to win

In their final pool-stage match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, Bangladesh put up a competitive 306-8 against Australia as Towhid Hridoy impressed with his maiden World Cup half-century.

LIVE UPDATES

After Australia skipper Pat Cummins chose to bowl after winning the toss, Bangladesh's top-order batsmen, including Tanzid Hasan (36), Litton Das (36), Najmul Hossain Shanto (45) and Mahmudullah (32), capitalized on favorable conditions, all making promising starts.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa showcased his prowess by taking 2 wickets for 32 runs, solidifying his position as the top wicket-taker in the tournament with 22 victims.

Despite Marnus Labuschagne effecting two run outs and causing some disruption, Hridoy's confident 74 runs off 79 balls set a strong foundation for Bangladesh. He hit five boundaries and two sixes during his stay.

Hridoy's innings came to an end in the 47th over while trying to accelerate the scoring. Ultimately, Bangladesh concluded with their highest total of the tournament.

Having secured a spot in the semi-finals, Australia, the five-time champions, are set to meet South Africa in Kolkata on November 16, enjoying a winning streak of six matches.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are aiming for a victory to solidify their position in the top eight, seeking qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
