NEW DELHI: The Indian women's cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, entered the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup as strong contenders to reach the knockout stages. However, their campaign was jolted early after suffering a heavy 58-run defeat against New Zealand in their tournament's opening match. This loss not only dented their chances but also significantly affected their net run rate (NRR), which could be a crucial factor in progressing to the semifinals.
India managed to keep their hopes alive with a comfortable but slow six-wicket victory over their arch-rivals Pakistan. Despite this win, India's NRR only improved to -1.217, placing them fourth in the Group A standings.
