Ibogaine Draws Attention After Presley Gerber's Death, Though No Link Is Established and Heart Risks Remain

Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old model and son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, died Sunday at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California, and an Instagram post he shared in March about ibogaine treatment in Mexico has pushed the drug back into public conversation. No link between ibogaine and his death has been established. Santa Monica police are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner deferred a ruling on the cause and manner of death pending additional testing after an autopsy Monday, Newsweek reported.

The medical examiner's office said deferred cases can take a few months to resolve, and police said there was no indication of foul play. Nothing in the public record ties the treatment he described months ago to his death, and this article does not suggest otherwise.
