Q&A Summary
Question | Answer |
---|---|
When I left the house yesterday ONON was getting smacked on earnings. I check this morning and it rallied back to even. Interesting | So wild and fundamentals weakening… not my cup of tea! |
Private: Ed- Raise hand is on | Thanks. I let him know. |
Ed, it took Arnie a minute. Justin will have to watch the beginning again to get it. :-D | HAHAHAAHAH |
when is Charles returning to the program? | He'll be back on March 28. |
Vktx? | Maybe it's forming a new base. Needs a few more weeks. Keeping an eye on it and I like that it's holding the 21-day line |
Maybe discuss NBIX? | live answered |
G'morning IBD panel, Dark Ops team. Happy Thursday, Friday on deck, please. | I'm with you! |
I happened to see an add from Mark Chaiken this morning claiming people are selling NVDA and you should get out. what do you know of that, and what is your ipinion on Nvda? thanks | I am not familiar with Mark Chaiken. NVDA got overheated recently and is due for a rest to form a new base. It's 22% above its 10-week line and very well could pull back to that level. I have a 127% gain on it in one account, and a 102% gain on it in my other account. It's my largest position. As of now I am willing to hold it until it triggers major sell signals. For now, the RS line is holding well above its weekly moving averages. I may not get out of the top, but I'm using rules to try to keep me in it for as big of a move as possible. |
Good morning. Please comment on the charts on MDGL and VKTX. | Not liking today's bar on MDGL and I typically am not buying speculative biotech stocks without revenue. VKTX lacks fundamentals too but the chart looks much more interesting. Let's see if it can flesh out a new base over the next few weeks |
Thank you Rachel! Great call on SQ last week!!! | live answered |
It seems to me there will be only one rate cut this year, if that. Inflation indicators to strong to fight. I wonder what the markets will accept. | We'll have to see what happens… good to be aware of macro but I'm letting leading stocks and the market drive my trading decisions |
weekley first (-: - today will be a fun day | :) |
MAR- does the 3.9% days to fill short interest give you any pause. | Only 2.2% of the float is shorted, which is very low. Usually 10% is where it becomes significant. |
Morning from bluebonnett country! | Love bluebonnetts! |
Thoughts on MOGA or the Industrials sector (also how to search industrials sector in MarketSurge). Thanks | Technically in a buy zone but a little too thinly traded for me and I haven't really traded many aerospace/defense stocks. This one has been underperforming the S&P for a few months |
don't hear much discussion on base depth or stage. | We do like talking about those things! I'll try to weave that into the conversation more when I host. |
CELH NH | Unstoppable! Still can't believe I got shaken out and didn't buy it back… I'm such a fan of the product! Might go down as my biggest trading mistake this year :) Thought it's still early and plenty of time to make other mistakes ;) |
AVAV turning at the 10 | Let's see if it can form a new base. Even if it turns green today that'd be way too aggressive of an entry for me personally |
NTAP - interesting on the undercut of the gap up high yday | Would love to see it spend more time going side ways and let the 21-day line catch up |
$GCT steady up until all EMA's touch 54.00 Next T =58/93 and that is the end of data | live answered |
AMD off the 21 | I'd use that more as a hold level vs. a buy level here after that reversal a few days ago, but maybe that's just me! I'm not in it |
good morning ibd nvda | Looks like a hold for those who own it with a profit cushion and a watch for those who don't own it. I own it… let's see if it forms a new base or continues to hold up! |
SOUN | In hindsight, 3/12 looks like it would've been your buy spot. But not profitable and below 10 bucks even though volume very liquid. Wild action today! Not for me personally |
how are the panel going protect from a down turn | Trimming profits and following defensive sell rules are always good ways to protect from a downturn |
IIPR - for income investors looking for capital appreciation? | I've never bought something just for the yield. Price action and fundamentals come first and if there's a dividend then great! |
GUSH? In oil | I'm not taking action but on the weekly it is potentially in a buyable area, though it's come up a lot in recent weeks so wouldn't be surprised if it paused/pulled back here or sooner than later |
Please discuss MPC. It looks the strongest in the refining sector. | It sure is looking strong. It looks like a hold for those who own it. For a new buy, it's too extended from its moving averages or the last base to be getting in at these levels in my view |
Thoughts on the action in GOOGL. today is 6th day in the green but has been squatting at days end | live answered |
Thoughts on LB adding to NVO if it can clear the high of the flag | I don't think they would be doing that. They may add on a bounce off the 21-day or 50-day |
ANET | I'm still in it and holding. Nice support at the 50-day recently |
Thoughts on Google?... | live answered |
PI making a move today. | It is — I'm focused on NVDA which is the leader in the group but there's definitely power in PI today |
Really like the volume change in MS! | live answered |
is UBER short base or four weeks tight | Doesn't quite qualify as a four-weeks-tight. Closes need to be within 1.5% from week to week over those tight weeks. But it is a nice narrow base that's forming. I'm in it, have owned it since 11/2 and added on 1/8, and would be looking to add a little bit more if it can clear resistance around 80 |
we;ve been due for a pullback for 6 weeks - how much money have people left on the table "watching" | I agree. I got lucky getting aggressive right at the turn in November and with some adds on pullbacks in Jan and Feb. That's allowed me to stay pretty fully invested. Tricky market but this uptrend keeps chugging along! Still bracing for a pullback to the 50-day, though. |
ALL, impressive improvement in fundamentals | live answered |
Thoughts on SE? | live answered |
AXON, would you consider it a buy, hold or add here? | Looks like a hold to me |
ARM up more than 2%, looks like the IPO expiration didn't have too much effect | Agreed! |
COST | Finding support at the 10-week. I'm not a buyer here though |
Path beats all the components of earnings yesterday and there is no negatives news. But why this stock is on decline? Anythng i missed here | I think Q1 rev guidance was a little light (full year fine). But I don't know! |
PLTR seems to be dropping | Holding the 21-day line so those who bought on earnings could still hold in my view |
yet the fundamentals in PATH are better than NOW which you like? | Fundamentals and technicals are both important, but technicals are more important in my view because that's a huge part of what determines whether your trade is a winning one or losing one |
AVGO - pls discuss -its post-eps action .... | Not liking that recent action. It's trying to hold the 10-week line. Those who have profit cushions could continue to hold as long as support holds in my view |
RTX* | Trying to come out of a handle after tightening up but hitting some resistance and pulling in a bit |
SHAK | Extended, looks like a hold |
SMCI working on an 11 week win streak. | Super impressive |
NOW is not showing good earnings in weekly for 2024 est and 2025 est. is that a mistake ? | For now, use the quarterly estimates for NOW instead of annual. For annual it's a bit skewed due to stock option compensation stuff I believe |
XP is down 2+% any news | Not sure but it's had quite a few up days in a row heading into today |
XP | Volume light and would like to see it hold 25 price level and 50-day MA |
Is it me, or did the market turn all of the sudden? | Bad couple of bars but still holding the 21-day on QQQ and the 10-day on SPY – I feel like we're overdue for a pullback down to the 50-day so I'm bracing for that to potentially happen. Doesn't mean it will! |
Don't need the moving aveages to collect data. But I see that you guys use the moving averages. | Yes, that's pretty core to our strategy |
Anyone considering UBER off the 21 day line? Gotta to be quick in this market. | If it bounces with conviction I'd consider it. I already own it so would be an add spot |
Using the new MarketSurge volume informaiton, I see FTI is up 13% on volume - is this 13% more than general opening volume? If not, what does the 13% mean in light of the new volume calculation please? | Yes. It means that based on the 35 minutes of trade, its volume is 13% above average. |
Good morning all! Can MarketSurge be configured to use keybindings? For example, I would like to set F1 to show the current chart in daily view, and F2 to show a weekly view. PgUp and PgDn would be nice for scrolling the new scrollable earnings windowlet in the weekly view, and would not require me to even use a mouse with a scrolling wheel (would be good if I'm on travel and working on a laptop or even on an iPad). Reaching to the mouse and back to the keyboard makes it slow to get through big lists, such as the Growth 250. Thoughts, ideas appreciated! |
Hi! Please reach out to marketsurge@investors.com to speak with a coach |
CRWD | Keeping an eye on 338 but I'm in MSFT and NOW for software so won't be doing anything with this one |
AMD testing its 21-day. | I hope it holds. The 50-day is 11% lower. |
MAR - ATH | Still looking nice and tight, would love to seeit move out of there with some conviction |
FITB | Let's see if it can hold the 50-day |
any news why DIS is dropping sharply today? | I'm not sure. HOlding the 21-day line and volume is light. But this one is a pass for me |
for swingtrading what kind of profit and loss range are you looking for? I seem to remember that it's just a few %? | I want 10% to 30%. |
DXCM | Pulling in but still above the 21-day and 50-day. I think the new fundamental catalyst here is super interesting but I'm passing on it for now. LLY is my medical sector exposure |
Rachel on ERJ? | live answered |
Can you also look at CCL based on earnings expectations? | RCL looks much stronger to me. Let's see if it forms a handle or breaks out |
Comments on HOOD | Too extended to buy but looks like a hold for those who own |
Private: Ali- I see 16 questions and 6 of them are mine. What do you see, please? | I see 150. |
Miss Ali, in regards to your repsonse to Amit and "adding" to your trades I was wondering how you play add ons? Do you still pyramid a 50,30,20 style tranche or when you add to a winner do you plan your adds like a completely seperate trade? In other words, its hard to O'neil pyramid if a stock you own has already run out of his 2-2.5% tranche add zones of the initial 50% and then 30%, 20%. I hope this makes sense. We talk a lot about adding to winners but the strategy of how to manage the "compartments" of the adds isn't discussed very often if at all. Thanks for all you do! |
It depends on the type of buy point and where the stock is in its move. I always pyramid to keep average cost in check. I'll add more if its a 50-day bounce than on a 21-day bounce or three-weeks-tight. Percent depends on my initial size. Also earlier in the run would be a larger add than later in the run. Since I have big gains at this points my adds are basically little sprinkles since I'm pretty fully invested. |
Ali "Diamond Hands" Coram - earned the right to hold through volatility with smart buys at the Follow Through Day | Ha! :) |
PPI rose .6% in Feb, may be the cause of todays performance. | Big factor |
what you see that as a pause-itive? | Nicely done. You're punny. |
Arnie, have u tried weekly first | haahha |
Is Arnie off his meds....he's a bit dour this morning? | hahahah |
Arnie, you may need to move on from XP. | hahaha... Agree |
What was that stock? sbpr? spbr? | SPRB |
Where does MktSrg show quarterly earns estimates? | On the weekly chart and scroll down on the data block on the left side of the chart. |
What effect does options expiration have on the market and why? | The main effect is on volume. I've never seen a consistent price effect. |
I have been on vacation, but saw where Mike Webster is doing something again with IBD. What will he be doing? | He's coming back as market strategist! So you'll be seeing a lot more of him on IBD Live and he'll be back heading up the SwingTrader team. |
WING response to ants? | These Ants are highlighting the break of the upper channel line. Still early in its move but more likely it will base here. |
VRT VRT VRT Please, thoughts for LR | Looks great but is really extended from any buy point. |
$HOOD Feb numbers were out yesterday, strong across the board (Equity Vol, Option Vol, Crypto, Deposits). The stock is gapped up, how do you see it? | Extended. I'm looking for a pullback. |
