Ian Wright reveals how Tottenham could 'easily' join Arsenal in title race as Joe Lewis slammed

Ian Wright has claimed Tottenham owner Joe Lewis is 'nowhere near ambitious enough' for the club to challenge for the Premier League. The former Arsenal striker believes that the Lilywhites could 'easily' join their north London rivals in a title race one day if the Spurs owner changes his attitude.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Wright outlined Lewis as the common denominator to Tottenham's underwhelming results. He said: "I think upstairs, we are looking at them changing managers. The players have got the blame. Everybody has got the blame.

"But they still have got the same owner, who is very tight with what he is doing and it seems like ‘Oliver, please can I have some more?’ He’s not giving you anymore in retirement."

ENIC Group, who are fronted by Lewis, own 85% of Tottenham. The 86-year-old is the overall shareholder of ENIC through Tavistock Group, based in the Bahamas, which is a private investment firm which also has stakes in companies in 10 countries.

According to Forbes, Lewis' net worth shot up to $6billion (£4billion) from $5.4billion (£4.3billion) last year. The report states that the Spurs owner's overall net worth was around $4billion (£3.2billion) a decade ago, with his wealth continuing to grow since 2013.

Despite Lewis' fortunes, Spurs haven't financially competed with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United or even Arsenal in recent years. Wright believes that the Tottenham shot-caller is too cautious with his spending choices, claiming that the Lilywhites could very easily become title contenders if Lewis changed his attitude.

"He’s the one whose attitude needs to change or he needs to move on, in respect to what he wants to do with Tottenham," the former Arsenal striker added. "For the last few years, they are in and around it with the right kind of push.

"They could be challenging for the Premier League title, especially when you see what Arsenal are doing. Tottenham could easily be doing that as well. I don’t think the owner is ambitious enough to do that. He’s nowhere near ambitious enough to do that. He has been the one common denominator in all of the fail."
