Ian Wright reveals frightening Arsenal problem vs Man City and it's not Erling Haaland

Ian Wright has revealed what 'frightens' him most about Arsenal in the Premier League title race – and, it's not Erling Haaland's freakish ability to always find the net. While the Gunners are five points clear of Manchester City, who have two crucial games in hand, they've squandered several opportunities to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The north London outfit have recently surrendered a pair of two-goal leads, while also going two-nil down inside a quarter of an hour against Southampton. With Mikel Arteta's side set to face their biggest test yet, Wright has cast doubt over his former club's inability to retain the utmost focus in key moments.

Speaking on his podcast, Wrighty's House Live, the 59-year-old detailed what problems Arsenal must fix ahead of the title race run-in. Wright said: "That’s the problem I think – our right side defensively is the weakest.

"I think [Martin] Ødegaard is going to be the one, and [Thomas] Partey, because if we can get ourselves in a situation where we can get the ball played through that midfield to [Bukayo] Saka and the pace of [Gabriel] Martinelli, we can breach them. It’s the concentration and when you look at the mistakes we made the other day [against Southampton], that does make me feel like there’s a little bit of nervousness and we can’t afford to do that tomorrow.

"We don’t seem to be focused enough at the moment, and that kind of frightens me. You can’t expect me to think it’s going to be brilliant because I want us to win. There are things that bother me about what City can definitely exploit with us – but we can exploit with them."

Then, Wright explained why he would be frightened even if Arsenal go two-up against City. The former Gunners striker added: "If you look at us at the moment, you feel like we’re conceding too many goals… You’re sitting there and you’re thinking we have to win this game, you can’t enjoy the game.

"And even if we do go two nil up, that’s when I’m at my most frightened at the moment. I’m absolutely petrified when we score a goal and that’s not meant to be happening!"

Ahead of the title-defining clash, Arteta addressed concentration issues which Wright is worried about. Speaking to football.london, the Spaniard said: "Human errors. Players make a lot of fantastic decisions, but they also make a lot of mistakes.

"The areas where they make mistakes probably define the extent and the consequences of those mistakes. Where we made those mistakes punished us heavily. Looking at the last two games back, taking them apart, we deserved to win both games without a question of a doubt.

"We have made some errors but we’ve won those games and then those errors get resolved."
