Ian Wright predicts Chelsea and Tottenham target to join 'bigger club' as contract offer snubbed

Ian Wright has suggested that David Raya could demand a move to a 'bigger club' in the summer. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been heavily linked with an exit from Brentford since entering the final 18 months of his contract with the Bees.

Raya has featured 24 times for Thomas Frank's side in the Premier League this season, keeping eight clean sheets. The Spain international's impressive displays for Brentford have not only propelled the club into contention for European qualification, but also attracted the interest of some top clubs.

Two of whom are Chelsea and Tottenham. football.london understands that Spurs are in the market for a new shot-stopper as they look for the long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, who sees his deal in north London expire at the end of next season.

And, Raya is one of several goalkeepers on Tottenham's shortlist. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea and Manchester United are also monitoring the Spaniard's situation at Brentford as they too look to bolster their options between the sticks.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Wright branded Raya as a 'very, very good goalkeeper' who has a move to a 'bigger club' on the horizon. The former Arsenal striker said: "Well, Raya’s already turned down a contract and he has two appearances for the national team in Spain.

"He is somebody that wants to win trophies. He’s a very, very good goalkeeper. You can see that he probably needs to make, in his own mind, go to that next level of club to elevate himself more.

"He obviously wants to see him being Spain’s No.1. A bigger club might happen for him. But he is a very, very good goalkeeper."

Raya has already brushed off speculation over his future, claiming that a decision will be made in the summer. He said: "I don't think it's the right time to sign a contract at the moment.

"I'm really, really happy and right now, I'm just thinking about doing the best for the team and trying to push for Europe. I was offered a new contract last year and one in January, but we didn't reach an agreement.

"For now, a new contract is secondary. The most important thing is the team and the games. We'll see where we are in May."

Then, more recently, Frank insisted that Raya is happy despite snubbing a new deal. The Brentford boss said: "I said many times I think he is among the best in the league and he has performed fantastic for us, but he is going nowhere.

"Let’s see. We are interested. I know David is very happy here, but there will be ongoing discussions of course."
