There is simply no person more popular on Tyneside than Eddie Howe right now. The 45-year-old’s impact since being appointed as Toon boss in November 2021 has gained him a lot of praise from the footballing world, most recently from Ian Wright.
In a recent interview with Toon legend Alan Shearer, Wright told Shearer and the Athletic that “Eddie Howe is doing unbelievable things”
In the interview, the Arsenal legend sung the praises of the Newcastle boss claiming “he [Howe] is so perfect for them, exactly like Mikel is for us.”

Although the two are very different on the sidelines, Wright’s comparison of Howe and Mikel Arteta seems to be a fair one. In a world where mangers often fall out with owners and players, both managers seem to be loving life at their clubs and seem to be in it for the long haul, which is something Chelsea and Spurs fans would die for at the moment.
Later in the interview both Shearer and Wright went on to preview Newcastle’s clash with Arsenal this Sunday and with the Magpies already having ruined Arsenal’s top four aspirations last season. Wright and Arsenal will hope the Magpies don’t repeat their antics and hand Manchester City the title when the Gunners visit St James Park.
“We’ve got to go to St James’ Park this weekend and you saw what they did to Tottenham the other week," Wright added. "Teams are going to Newcastle now and they’re afraid”.
Having drawn 0-0 at the Emirates earlier in the season, Howe will be hoping the St James Park crowd can push them over the line this time out and take them another step close to Champions League certainty.
