Ian Wright has already told Arsenal why they should secure Youri Tielemans transfer

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this month.

A report from Goal earlier this month claimed that the Gunners hold an interest in the 24-year-old and the north London club have held talks with his entourage over a potential move.

Tielemans has just 18 months remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium and is reportedly not expected to extend his stay with the club he has been at since 2019.

However, the report goes on to say that a deal is unlikely to be struck this month, with Leicester still trying to persuade the Belgium international to put pen to paper on a new contract.

One man who is a huge admirer of Tielemans is Arsenal legend Ian Wright. Back in 2019, Wright was full of praise for the former AS Monaco midfielder.

"Then there is Youri Tielemans. He came over from Monaco. He’s on loan at Leicester City and he’s someone that – well there are loads of teams linked with him – but he’s someone that you’d want to have," Wright said to The Mirror.

What's Leicester's stance on Tielemans?

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers recently conceded that the club are already preparing for life without Tielemans.

When asked if Leicester have to plan for Tielemans leaving the King Power, Rodgers replied: "You always have to, that is key. I have said if before about the pipeline of players.

"You always have to be looking ahead, that's important. Sometimes it happens unexpectedly, other times you know where the situation is at.

"He is at an age and a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option. I would love it to be here at Leicester, but I understand it's a very short career.

"For players, it's about ambition, the challenge and sometimes about a different environment. We have seen before that players will move on even after winning the Champions League.

"We have a close relationship, it's really strong. I made a commitment to him when I first came in that we would improve him as a player and he believes in the environment.

"Once the players are committed, focused and professional it's never a worry for me. You can see Youri loves being here and you have to respect these guys' careers are short."

"Youri is very happy here," he added. "He has clearly developed and turned into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

"Clearly with a player with that quality and with the length of contract, he's always going to be talked about. I cannot worry about that.

"I know he is concentrated and very focused. We hope he will sign a new contract. He is a brilliant professional."
