Ian Wright gives honest Mykhailo Mudryk transfer verdict amid Leandro Trossard comparison

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has given his verdict on Chelsea signing Mykhailo Mudryk after the winger grabbed his first assist for the club against Leicester. Having completed a big money move to the London club in January his progress since then has been stunted so far.

The deal itself was complicated and unexpected after flirting with Arsenal via social media for months on end only to end up in blue after Todd Boehly pounced on the chance to sign the exciting attacker. Mudryk's debut, one week after he signed, proved just why so much praise had been sent his way.

In a blistering 25-minute cameo against Liverpool he showed his electric speed and quick feet, igniting an otherwise dull game. Since then things haven't been smooth for club nor player.

The 22-year-old then only lasted one half against Fulham due to illness before failing to strike up a relationship with Marc Cucurella against West Ham. He hasn't started a game since. He was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over Leeds and also didn't get on the pitch for the Champions League victory in midweek either.

This was all played down by Graham Potter, who is managing his new star's workload after he came in undercooked with gametime. In the meantime, Arsenal's alternative signing, Leandro Trossard, has hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium. The Belgian, who was also wanted by Chelsea, made league history on Sunday by becoming the first player to get three assists in the first half of an away game.

He has also made an immediate impact for the table-toppers, unlike Mudryk who is adapting to the league and country. The pair are hardly comparable but such was the way the two deals came about there is no surprise that they are spoken about in the same manor.

Now, with contrasting fortunes for their club, Wright has gone as far as to say: “They (Arsenal) didn’t get Mudryk and that might be the best thing that happened to them."

Speaking on Wrighty’s House Podcast he explained this, adding: “I don’t care what anyone says, Mudryk, and we’ve seen up to this point, he wouldn’t have done what Trossard has done or what Trossard has been doing up to this point."

The former Gunners strike went on, not piling into Mudryk, but offering sympathy to his situation having left a war torn country. “Mudryk, for his own sake, I do feel sorry for him because I don’t know if there’s anyone in the history of football whose had to have a transfer of that amount of money with so much politicalness around him. It’s almost unfair.”
