Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes forward Eddie Nketiah has missed a huge chance in not staking a claim as the Gunners next No. 9.
Nketiah is now entered into his final six months, with both Crystal Palace and Newcastle rumoured to be interested in him during the January transfer window.
But having only made four Premier League appearances this season, all of which came from the bench, the 22-year-old has failed to make an impact.
None more so than in the sides damning 1-0 FA Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest last month, with Nketiah missing a whole host of chances.
Wright has spoken out following the disappointing cup exit, believing the Arsenal youngster could have staked a real claim regarding his own future game time.
‘'Watching him against Forest, it was a tough game for us but what you do in those games is you keep it tight, you defend very well and you hope your guy takes a half chance and he didn’t take it,’' he told The Wrighty’s House podcast.
‘'Eddie is a goal scorer that should. Those are the chances and opportunities he should have taken that would have given him a berth in the team that will give him a chance to nick those goals.
‘'But I don’t think he recognised the opportunity. Now, it looks like he wants to leave, and he probably will. And he has missed the chance. There was a chance there.’'
With the Gunners failing to add another striking option during the January window, it seems likely that Mikel Arteta will make it a number one priority heading into the summer months.
