Ian Wright believes Antonio Conte "knows he's made mistake" taking Tottenham job

Three successive league defeats and five losses in their last eight games in all competitions have dampened Tottenham ’s Premier League top four hopes and seen them exit the Carabao Cup.

And manager Antonio Conte has continued to vent his frustrations at the lack of transfer business at the club during the January window as his side continue to struggle following just two new arrivals last month.

The Italian recently admitted that he doesn't agree with chairman Daniel Levy ’s transfer strategy in a remarkable interview with Sky Italia , as the cracks begin to show.

Conte revealed that he’s only just realised the club’s philosophy of bringing in young players to build for the future, which is the opposite of what he wanted in order to make a success of Tottenham’s season.

And now, Arsenal legend and pundit Ian Wright believes that Conte ‘knows he’s made a mistake’ in taking the Spurs job after failing to receive sufficient backing by Levy in the January transfer window.

Could Antonio Conte walk away from his position as Spurs manager before the end of the season? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Speaking to Premier League Productions , Wright said: "It's very confusing as to where Spurs are at at the moment and him like he's only just realising it.

"He turned them down in the summer, they were saying about him not being able to get his coaching staff, [the job] not coming up to what he wanted.

"So it's really strange that they got Nuno, obviously Nuno's gone, and then he's come back and he's still taking the job where I was thinking that 'well obviously he's going to get exactly what he wants'.

"But what I'm hearing from interviews and everything I'm reading from Antonio Conte at the moment, it's not what he wanted."

Conte is a top manager with a proven record at the highest level, including a Premier League title with Chelsea in 2016-17, and Wright cannot understand as to why he hasn’t been backed by the club.

The Italian signed an 18 month contract with Spurs in November but the Match of the Day pundit struggles to see him staying past this season, while many have already predicted that Conte could walk before the summer.

Wright continued: "When he came back to Tottenham once Nuno had gone, you would have thought 'well, his bargaining position is brilliant now, Daniel Levy cannot do the same thing he did with Pochettino and not back him'.

"[But] you end up with Antonio Conte and you're still not backing him in the way that he wants to be backed.

"I'm looking at his demeanor in the interviews and there's a resignation of 'I might have made a mistake here'. I get that feeling. And he's only got 18 months.

"I'm not sure he's going to stay longer than this season.

"If he does I'd be very surprised because I can't see what the incentive would be."
