Ian Poulter seemed to aim a cheeky dig towards his former Ryder Cup partner Rory McIlroy, after the Englishman's changing room rage was spotted in Netflix's 'Full Swing' trailer. The Full Swing series is set to hit TV screens in February, and will give fans an inside look into the dramatic 2022 PGA Tour season.
It was a year like no other in the world of golf, following the new-found rivalry between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. As a result the Netflix cameras looked to have captured plenty of the drama, with a number of LIV defectors involved.
One man in particular who is set to feature heavily is Poulter, who made the controversial Saudi switch ahead of its maiden event at the Centurion Club last summer.
Poulter features heavily in the one-minute promo, most notably in a changing room tantrum. The rage was picked up by many golf fans, with some struggling to pin-point who the player in question was.
The question was quickly raised on social media, before Poulter himself owned up to being the angered club thrower. In his confession though, the Englishman looked to have taken a low blow at McIlroy.
He tweeted: "I tried to rip my shirt open but I wasn’t quite strong enough for that. So i tried the next best thing. felt great." His 'rip shirt' reference seemingly referred to McIlroy, who tore apart his playing polo in anger at the 2021 DP World Tour Championship.
The Northern Irishman looked set to challenge for the title in the Middle East 14 months ago, but a staggered finish saw American star Colin Morikawa go on to win by three shots. After his collapse McIlroy refused to speak to the media, and was soon seen wearing a ripped-in-half shirt.

The four-time major champion and Poulter have found themselves on opposite sides of golf's civil war, despite once being close allies. Speaking late last year, McIlroy revealed he felt 'betrayed' by the likes of Poulter for turning their backs on European golf to join LIV.
Poulter hit back at his former partner in October, and claimed as far as he was concerned he was still in contention to make the European team for this year's Ryder Cup in Rome. He said: "A betrayal? We can still qualify for the team as far as I’m aware. Unless we’ve been told we can’t qualify, then I’m still ready to play as much as I possibly can and try and make that team.”
