Iain Stirling shares huge Love Island twist as fans can pick first couple

Love Island narrator Iain Stirling revealed a brand new feature to this years series as viewers can now pick the day one couples.

Iain and his Love Island host wife Laura Whitmore touched down in Majorca today ahead of the new season premiere on Monday June 6.

Earlier this week, the ITV2 show unveiled this year's line-up set to enter a brand new villa in just a few days - with Michael Owen's daughter Gemma amongst the hopeful wannabes this year.

Laura - who took over from original host Caroline Flack in January 2020 - is set to oversee all the coupling ups and fallings outs once again as hubby Iain continues his reign as the dating show's cheeky voiceover.

There are a few changes in store for this years Islanders (ITV)

Taking to Instagram earlier, the Scots funnyman wrote: " For the first time EVER you guys at home will have your say of who couples up with who on Day 1! Head over to the Love Island app NOW to take part in the poll."

Iain and Laura were snapped as they arrived in Spain earlier today as they handled their luggage after flying into the country to record the opening scenes for the popular series.

The coupling up announcement isn't the only change producers have made to the hit ITV2 dating show.

Love Island executive producer Mike Spencer answered some of fans burning questions, as he hinted what is in store for the upcoming series.

While answering questions during a Q&A on Reddit, he was asked by one fan: "Why the spitting food challenges. I beg youse to stop, such a waste of food! I really think doing challenges with incentives or couple building activities would be so much better."

He said: "We are stepping away from the food challenges as we know them."

Mike also hinted the savage Casa Amor postcard twist might not be featured in this year’s series.

"We have published our duty of care protocols very publicly and we have an incredible welfare team on the series," he added.

"I agree we have to be incredibly considered when making editorial decisions. We are also making a dating entertainment series but humour is normally at the heart of most storylines.

"I think we are considered and it always becomes tricky with the passing of information but we aim to find balance in the show."

Love Island returns on Monday June 6 on ITV2.
